Sgt. Jack Edward Shelly
Jack Shelly was born in Akron. He died at the age of 25. He was a graduate of West High School and worked for the Standard Oil Co. before inlisting in the US Marine Corp. Jack was killed in action on June 15, 1944 on Saipan. His remains layed in an unmarked grave untill Jan. 7, 1949 when they were findly returned to his family here in America. He was buried with a ceremony by the America Legion Post 209. Jack Shelly was my cousin. I never met him as I was born in '51. However, I heard many family members over the years talk about his great personality and good looks. I know I would have liked him.
